Crowns & Bridges:
Dental Crowns:
A dental crown may be the best option to save a tooth which has been damaged or weakened due to circumstances such as trauma (such as a fall), decay, large fillings in the past, root-canal treatment & age-related wear & tear. They are also often referred to as 'Caps' and cover the entire surface of the tooth above the gumline. All-Ceramic (eMax) crowns are the most commonly preferred crown type, as these are entirely tooth coloured with some translucency to best mimic a natural tooth's colour, shape and clarity, thereby giving you the best aesthetic result possible. Occasionally a metal alloy or porcelain-&-metal-alloy crown may be selected as the most appropriate option for a particular person or tooth, particular in areas of greater stress as metal alloy will withstand strong forces of grinding and crushing. Your dentist will advise the best choice for your specific circumstances.
Dental Bridges:
Dental bridges literally bridge the gap of a missing tooth & so are used to replace one or more missing teeth. They are a permanent fixture, consisting of an artificial tooth anchored to the adjacent natural teeth. Since bridges involve preparing & crowning the tooth or teeth adjacent to the space to be replaced, they are most suitable in areas where the adjacent teeth are already compromised & would benefit from dental crowns. Like crowns, bridges are made of strong, durable, tooth-coloured material & provide a highly aesthetic final result.
