Endodontic (Root Canal) Treatment:
If the nerve(or pulp) of a tooth becomes diseased or infected, Endodontic (Root Canal) Therapy can be used to save the tooth structure and eliminate pain & infection, where, previously, extraction was the only option available. Endodontic (root canal) therapy is completed in multiple stages.
-
The tooth is opened to allow for removal of infected or dead dental pulp.
-
The tooth is comprehensively cleaned & irrigated internally.
-
The canals are smoothed & shaped with special tools
-
The tooth is filled internally with biocompatible materials.
-
A filling is placed to cover the original access opening
Between root-canal appointments, the tooth will be dressed internally with antibacterial & anti-inflammatory medicaments to reduce infection & discomfort. A temporary filling will also be placed to seal the access point to the pulp chamber.
